The Mapple Corona Dyne Test Pen works by applying a small droplet of fluid to the surface of the material being tested. The fluid contains a known surface tension, or dyne level, and the size and shape of the droplet will change depending on the surface energy of the material. If the droplet beads up and does not spread out, it indicates that the surface energy is lower than the dyne level of the fluid. If the droplet spreads out and wets the surface, it indicates that the surface energy is equal to or higher than the dyne level of the fluid.
