Heart Score

The HEART score is a heart-health score given to patients with chest pain admitted to the emergency department by health officials.

Every year, a hundred thousand people visit an emergency room. Only a thousand of these persons suffer chest pain, and another thousand have Acute Coronary Syndrome (any health condition associated with sudden blockage or reduction of blood flow to the heart). Healthcare providers need a mechanism to divide the remaining patients into low, intermediate, and high-risk groups so that patients at high risk of cardiac events can be treated first. This is how the HEART score was created.
