Indians Extend Their Win Streak to 13 Ga

CHICAGO- On Tuesday night the Cleveland Indians played their second game out of a four game series with the Chicago White Sox. On Monday the Indians took game one of the series with a 5-3 victory and earned their 12th consecutive victory. Heading into Tuesday night's game the Indians had a 10 game lead over the Minnesota Twins and their magic number stood at 16 games. The Indians came in with a record of 81-56. The White Sox were mathematically eliminatedfrom contention in the division following their lo s on Monday. The White Sox were 54-82 coming into tonight's game. The Indians have not trailed an opponent for 67 consecutive innings and scored 84 runs over the last 12 games going into Tuesday night's game. In the first inning, the Indians sent up 9 batters to the plate and managed to scored 3 runs. During the White Sox half of the inning, they sent 9 batters up to the plate also.Austin Jackson got things started in the first with a homer and Jose Ramirez followed up with a homer himself. With Ramirez's homer in the first inning on Tuesday that makes it 4 homers in the past 3 games. In a game in which the Indians are having Danny Salazar start this seemed like this would be a game in which the team needed to strike first since Salazar is coming off of the Disabled List. A three run lead was not enough for Salazar before the first inning was over the Indians were trailing 4-3 and Salazar was taken out of the game after 2/3 of an inning. Salazar was not expected to have a 6/7 inning start tonight but was expected to go at least 4/5 innings. In the first inning alone both teams needed 82 pitches combined to get out of the inning. Salazar went 2/3 of an inning, gave up 4 earned runs, 2 walks, allowed 1 hit, and struck out 1. Jose Ramirez and Greg Allen Offensive Combo Jose Ramirez continued on his roll in tonight's game. Ramirez hit his first home run of the night in the first inning and in the very next inning he hit his second homer of the night. Ramirez is coming off of being named American League Kennys Vargas Jersey Player of the Week. Ramirez was 15-29, having a batting average of .517, and had 12 extra base hits. Ramirez accounted for 2 out of the teams 9 runs. One of the September call-ups Greg Allen accounted for another 2 when he hit a 2 run double in the 3rd inning. Allen spent his 2017 season with the Akron RubberDucks playing in 71 games, batting .264/.344/.357 ,and stole 21 bases. Allen is not known to be a power guy only managing to hit 2 homers in AA. Allen so far since getting called up is Kirby Puckett Jersey 3-13 but is getting the experience and helping out the team especially with the go-ahead runs in the third inning. The Indians scored outside of Ramirez and Allen also with a Jackson homer in the first, mentioned previously, and a Brandon Guyer fielders choice with the bases loaded in the first. Keep on Rolling With the Indians striking first in the first inning and coming out of the game victorious the team improves to 62-19 when scoring first. With the win, the Indians also extend their win streak to 13 consecutive victories and are one victory away from tying their longest win streak in history (set in 2016). In tonight's game, starting pitching did not flourish like it has during the win streak but the bullpen came out and saved the day. This year marks the first time for the Cleveland Indians to have multiple win streaks of at least 9 games or more since 1954. During the 1954 season, the Indians had a pair of 11-game win streaks and a pair of 9-game win streaks. The Indians are also the first team to have multiple winning streaks of 12+ games in back-to-back seasons since the San Francisco Giants accomplished this in 1965/1966.
