The lead developers of Diablo 2 Resurrected have stressed that they don't want players "feel that they are able to pay to win" when the game releases next year.

In the recent Diablo 2 Resurrected livestream(opens in new tab) Game director Joe Shely, along with associate game director Joesph Piepiora also community manager Adam Fletcher gave fans an update on all things Diablo 2 Resurrected, as well as gave an insight into how things will be conducted in the lead up to the game's release next summer.

During the stream they discussed the Diablo 2 Resurrected battle pass (around the 39:15 mark in the video below) in addition to the coming seasons of the game. "It's essential to us that we balance those things you'd encounter when you play the game," Piepiora told the crowd, "the way that they're compelling but still very fair, we don't want to create any scenarios where players feel they're being forced to pay. "To make a clear distinction in between battle passes and Diablo 2 Resurrected's seasons Piepiora explained that "the season's story is the same in Diablo 2 Resurrected, in the way that you found it with Diablo 3." The chapter-based mechanic will give players many goals throughout the season , and allow them to earn in-game rewards on their own characters. "All of the content for the season is completely free. The content is not tied to the battle pass itself," Shely adds.

In order to clear up any confusion, Shely explained that when Diablo 2 Resurrected launches on June 6 2023, the game won't be available immediately to begin season one. "Season one will be released several weeks after the release of the game. the season will begin when season one begins everyone will start simultaneously, and everybody will be on an even game," the developer said. The competitive features of Diablo 2 Resurrected (e.g. : leader boards) are likely to show up in seasons for those who didn't pay for early access will not need to worry about unfairness.

"Our major season updates are completely free. They're loaded with different progression mechanics for the game, new monsters to take on, challenges, new quests, as well as content for you to consume," Piepiora adds "there's lots to look forward to , and D2R Items buy it all comes with costs included in the box of the game you've purchased."
