Gold Canyon’s Guide to Candle Care

Presenting Gold Canyon’s Guide to Candle Care. Follow this guide to get the most out of your candles.

1. Trim Your Wick

Before you light your candle, trim the wick to ¼ inch. You can use wick trimmers or a pair of scissors. Keeping the wick at ¼ inch will prolong the life of the candle and decrease soot. Plus, trimming the wick ensures a more consistent throw.

2. Center the Wick

Before you burn, make sure the wick is centered. If the wick is leaning to one side, simply nudge it back to center. This will ensure a more even burn and a consistent throw.

3. Allow the Wax to Melt Completely

The first time you burn your candle, let it burn for 3–4 hours. Once the candle has completely melted, you can blow it out. This process prevents “tunneling.” Tunneling is the phenomenon in which candles burn down the center, leaving hard wax near the rim. Tunneling leads to wasted wax, difficulty lighting the wick, and an unattractive burn.

4. Limit Burn Time

We don’t recommend burning your candle for more than 5 hours. Prolonged burns can produce soot and large flames.
