La Vernia Chinese Cuisine owners are thankful for community support

It’s never pleasant to be ill during the holidays. And when you’re a business owner, being hospitalized can take an additional toll on your livelihood. To get more news about shanghai Chinese cuisine, you can visit shine news official website.

La Vernia Chinese Cuisine owners Thy Ngeang and Leng Mam are now resting at home, after a lengthy hospitalization due to multiple health complications.

Over the past month, Thy, 60, and his wife, Leng, 65, of San Antonio were being treated at Northeast Baptist Hospital for multiple issues, including heart problems and diabetes, according to their daughter.

As the owners and operators of the La Vernia restaurant — located at 11727 U.S. 87 West — their hospitalization severely impacted the business’ hours of operation, forcing a temporary closure.

The couple’s children, Melinda and Channy Thy — who also work at the family-run restaurant — attempted to keep the business running. However, they were also looking after their ill parents. All of this took place during the holiday season, no less.

It was stressful for the family to close the restaurant’s doors.

“We were closed down for three weeks or so,” Melinda said. “My brother and I decided to open it back up and run it as many days as we can to get some money flowing into my parents’ account, so they don’t fall behind in bills.”

It was during this challenging time that the 12-year La Vernia restaurant owners saw an outpouring of kindness from members of the community.

La Vernia residents showed their support by rallying on community social media pages — placing orders, buying gift certificates, and even donating to help tackle some of the expenses for the business owners.“I honestly never really knew how much kindness there can be in my life,” Melinda confessed. “I would like to thank everyone who has supported us and donated to keep my parents’ restaurant open.”

While Thy and Leng are no longer in the hospital, they still need time to recover. They will also need approval from their physicians before returning to work, Melinda said.

In the meantime, Melinda and Channy, with the help of their aunt, Theara Vong, will continue to run the restaurant, as best as they can.

The trio intends the temporary hours of operation of La Vernia Chinese Cuisine to be from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, for takeout only. These hours may vary, though, because Melinda — who is starting nursing school this month — also needs to be available to look after her parents, she explained.
