The company has applied for RuneScape gold two trademarks in UK, one to "OSRS Gold" and the other in the name of "RS Gold", with the filing stating that the company has registered the use of the terms as words. This could prevent third-party websites from being able to promote their sale of RS Gold.
A quick Google search of either term brings up hundreds of websites, many of them with one of the terms mentioned in their URLs, and that provide the currency of RuneScape with real money. This was in response to the news of Oct. 13th that Jagex announced that it was ending for "real-world trade". On its blog "The RuneScape Team" stated that "gold that is purchased via RWT real-world trading is a problem in every online game with tradeable currency."
Jagex says it will send "messages to players whom we've found engaging in the RWT" within "the coming hours". "For anyone involved, we want to make clear that this is your first message, and the only one," they added.
It was also announced of the game's PvP game mode Duel Arena, would have sweeping changes, which included the tighter enforcement of game's code of conduct in order to foster more positive game play. Jagex says the feature "has been a trigger to this kind of toxic behavior".
Before that, however, what the publisher calls "short-term measures" will be taken "until our development teams are able bring a major update to completely replaces the Duel Arena in the coming year."
