It might be an interesting fact that, until just fairly recently, wedding bands were not for men. Prior to World War II wearing a ring wasn't all that common with married men. Normally, a man's gold wedding bands is worn around the clock, so it will need to be sturdy. The gold and silver are a softer material than many of the rest. For that reason some people avoid silver and gold. They prefer a metal that won't need to be replaced simply because it gets damaged to quickly. It really depends on the individual and the amount of everyday stress the ring will be put under. Someone doing manual work may prefer a tougher metal than an office worker.
The band that is the most suitable for a man to wear should be fitted so that it will not come off with normal operation of the hand. The width of the band needs to be a size that will allow the proper movement of the finger that it is on (the ring finger).
