The next BlizzCon event, where major announcements regarding the studio's games usually happen but was recently cancelled. Blizzard says it will be making the effort to reimagine the event's future but announcements about coming games and updates will continue to be announced in the months ahead.

Blizzard is cancelling BlizzCon 2022 to reimagine the Future Of The Event

BlizzCon 2022 scheduled to be held in February and be mostly virtual, along with smaller gatherings in person, was cancelled. The decision comes amidst ongoing lawsuits and investigation claiming the widespread discrimination and harassment of women on the part of Activision Blizzard.

Blizzard announces that the energy typically devoted to the organization of the annual convention will instead focus on "supporting our teams and progressing advancement of our games as well as experiences." Since there will be no BlizzCon this year, Blizzard will also take the time to "reimagine" what the event could be like.

"The first BlizzCon was held just 16 years ago and so much has changed in the time since--most notably, the multiple ways that communities and players can come together and feel a part of something bigger," Blizzard's statement reads. "Whatever the event looks like in the near future, we also need to make sure that it is as safe, welcoming, and inclusive as possible."
