The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts clash for the 109th Grey Cup on Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. In the hours and days prior to kickoff, festival-goers can enjoy pancake breakfasts, family fairs and a street festival.
“This free shuttle service will provide a convenient and safe transportation option to the thousands of hotel guests that are visiting our city this week,” said Tracy Fahlman, president and CEO of the Regina Hotel Association, noting it will be available to residents too.
The shuttles will start up on Nov. 17 and run until Grey Cup Sunday. People can find shuttle pick up locations at 27 participating hotels, the Southland Mall, the University of Regina, two stops downtown and four others in the Warehouse District, Fahlman said.Shuttles will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday in 30 minute intervals. Then on Sunday, shuttles will run every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., “and then continuously after that,” Fahlman added.
The last bus will leave Mosaic Stadium one hour after the game. Info will be posted in hotel lobbies for visitors. For routes and pick up locations, people can check GreyCupFestival.ca or download the Grey Cup Festival app.
Hotel rooms across the city are sold out, but cancellations are common, Fahlman said. She advised anyone looking to book a room to call the hotel directly rather than attempting to book online for best results, as many rooms get snatched up before they can be posted. The Regina Police Service will have an increased presence around the city and the festivities, which will become more noticeable as game day approaches, said Insp. Chris Jackiw.
“For game day, there’s a lot of officers working. I would suggest over a hundred,” Jackiw said, between various units and positions.
Jackiw recommends that people take advantage of free transportation as parking at and around the stadium is usually at a premium, even for regular game days.
“We’ve been doing games at this stadium for a number of years, since it was built, and I think it will be very similar to Labour Day, just a lot colder,” he added.
