I was having a debate with a friend today who, even though very liberal on most dilemmas, is fairly heart of the trail in regards to weapon control. He's perhaps not against hidden bring, but does prefer a lot more history checks - particularly on income from a personal specific to personal individual.

He's a little amazed that I am against this. "Why?", he asked.

First, i'd like to preface my reasoning with a little information about me. I am no anarchist. I am not just a doomsday prepper. I do not think we are due for a revolution, certainly not within my lifetime. I love having SOME government (don't tell my anti-statist buddies though). Many of these beliefs being so, I must admit that I actually do concern for the years that can come after my demise (I do hope to own at least still another 40 years, which will get me in to my 80s).

Therefore back once again to my friend. Why do I differ with him? Effectively, it's simple. Background checks on every purchase, particularly personal specific to personal specific, would cause a nationwide weapon registry. I am greatly against having one of these.

My friend countered, very happily I might add, that people must enroll our cars. You will want to our weapons? That is simple. Nowhere in the constitution does it promise the best to keep and possess cars. All of us caved on the accreditation of cars and owners of a 100 years ago.

Our founding fathers particularly set vocabulary in the constitution enabling us to keep and tolerate arms. There are different interpretations in regards to what they meant, but I think at least part of these reasoning was so that people could protect ourselves from a tyrannical government or those that hope to accomplish us harm.

Do I think which our government is tyrannical? Effectively, nearly yet. We are however the most free nation on earth. I actually do in contrast to to course our country is on, but I do not feel it's to late to right the ship.

Having a national weapon registry would cause forced weapon buy-backs or even confiscation throughout some future disaster (either normal or man-made). Having our talents to defend ourselves from criminals and/or government outlined in a repository will be sharing information that is way too personal.

The road to nightmare is smooth with excellent intentions. Beginning a national weapon registry is the first step to getting weapons from people the us government does not want holding guns. Currently these people are felons and people that have intellectual problems. Who might these future gunless people be? People of unique political parties? People of certain economic courses? People of certain religions? It's all happened through the duration of earth history. We pretend to be the enlightened Americans but we've factions looking to take all our freedoms and give all the power to the us government just like dictators of past and provide we've all seen of.

How does that happen? We've to view it from two avenues. First the slow loss in weapon rights for anyone through new "minor" limited weapon laws. 2nd, the whole loss in weapon rights for unique sets of people the us government has targeted. Imagine a candle burning at both ends. Together end burns up, more and more of the governments opponents are particularly forbidden to own guns. As another end burns up, more and more of the general citizenry are receiving the remainder of these weapon rights taken away as well. Once the flames match at the center we are remaining without weapons for everyone, and we've a government with nothing to fear. That is the problem of the smooth slope.
