Coventry City 1-1 MK Dons Coventry City 1-1 MK Dons

After Saturdays last minute winner against Oldham which was our first league win since March I actually thought wed started off something bright and new, wasnt to be. Well for the first half we were, mainly the second half we were dire. The only positives I can take are 4 points out of 2 games and we competed against a high flying team in MK Dons well for the first half at least and also last season we would have lost late on, a decent defensive performance when needed. In a game where the away side dominated po se sion with their Barcelona style pa sing there were plenty of chances in the first half but it was really one sided the second, surprised we held on to a point..On a miserable wet night at the Ricoh, Coventry bo s Mark Robins was going for his second win in charge, he was forced to make 3 changes with Cyrus Christie, William Edjenguele and Adam Barton coming in for the injured pair Erik Haula Men Jersey of Jordan Clarke and Reece Brown, whilst Arsenal loanee Connor Henderson dropped to the bench. The game started brightly for the skyblues when an early chance went to Carl Baker whose volley was saved well by Dons keeper David Martin, from the resulting corner Richard Wood latched onto captain Carl Bakers corner to just head over the bar. The Ricoh shook after that as everyone was up on their feet along with bo s Mark Robins crying out HANDBALL! as Adam Bartons header struck Anthony Kays hands but the penalty shouts were waved away, I for one had never screamed so loud in a long time. The away side didnt have much to shout about all though they nearly got in as Richard Woods woeful back pa s let Charlie MacDonald slip it past Murphy in the City goal only for his ball to be Andrei Svechnikov Jersey cleared by William Edjenguele. The home side made up for that mistake when McGoldrick caught onto a long ball from Carl Baker who then ran, the striker who could of went down but stayed on his feet, shot was parried away by Martin again. Coventry dominated the chances but the away side dominated po se sion as the next chance came to Frank Mou sa as some neat pa sing was then picked up by Baker whose cro s was unconvincingly punched away by Martin, Mou sa was there to drive a long shot just wide. It was the captains time to have a crack at goal as Gary McSheffrey won the ball back then skipped away down the left hand side to cro s to the far post to Baker, who had time to control it but unfortunately blasted it over the bar. It Rod Brind'Amour Men Jersey was the away side to go close next as MacDonald chested the ball pa s Richard Wood whose looping volley just struck the outside of Murphys goal, he also went close soon after that but his shot was comfortably saved by the Irishman. It was the home fans that were sent on to their seat as Gary McSheffrey second attempt at a corner was headed home by Richard Wood. It didnt last long however as the skyblues were dealt a harsh blow. Some dreadful defending by City was picked up by Stephen Gleeson whose deflected shot wrong footed Joe Murphy and ended up in the Coventry goal, a very lucky and harsh goal to concede, however they did deserve 3 points with their efforts second half.On to the second half and what can I say we hit a brick wall, we were awful, everything that went right in the first half Scott Darling Women Jersey was going wrong in the second! I would say there were few chances in the second half with most of them going to the away side. Dean Bowditch went close as an infield ball let him shoot just wide of Murphys goal who was at full stretch. McGoldrick then headed quite high over the bar from a Baker cro s. But it was the Dons who should have scored as a ball to the far post was narrowly put wide by Daniel Powell. The next chance they should definitely of scored and left the Midlands with all 3 points as MacDonald from 4 yards out was handed a open goal and could not finish as Frenchmen Edjenguele cleared off the line with him still on the floor, a brave defensive move. Robins tried to change it Brett Pesce Jersey with bringing John Fleck and Callum Ball on for McSheffrey and Barton who has dipped in form recently, Nathan Cameron also came on for the first time since his injury last season replacing Edjenguele who looked to off injured himself in the goalmouth scramble. The substitutions nearly paid off for the home side as Balls looping header was caught by Martin who looked to be over the line. John Fleck had a 90th minute free kick blaze over the bar when he could off clipped it into the danger zone. That was it for chances, happy with a point but we really need to perform for 90 minutes. I think the 697 away fans will be more disappointed than the home. Onto Bournemouth at home Saturday PUSB.
